Walter Robert Purtell, 57, of Bernhards Bay, unexpectedly departed this world on April 3rd, 2021.
Walt, also known as “U.F.W.” was a caring, kind, fun-loving man. He had a witty sense of humor and a generous heart. Everyone knew his door was always open to anyone in need. Walt was always known to have long hair, a bandana, a smile on his face. Walt was an industrial woodworker at McIntosh Box & Pallet Company for many years until an unfortunate accident left him disabled. He was a dedicated father, partner, and friend. Walt loved cooking, dancing, music, drinking, and Dale Earnhardt. Over the years Walt amassed a truly marvelous collection of blue stain glass and NASCAR memorabilia. Walt had a story for every piece he ever collected, and would gladly share it with anyone who would listen. He was truly the life of every party. Most of all, Walt loved spending time with his family and friends. Walt had no shortage of family; anyone he ever met eventually became family to him. In his earlier years, Walt loved attending concerts, classic car shows, and watching NASCAR every Sunday. He had many great personal accomplishments such as restoring his brother's classic car, working on the construction team for carousel mall, and ensuring his children had great childhoods. Walt was a three time cancer survivor and was in remission, which gave him a new outlook on life before his untimely passing.
Walt was predeceased by his brother, George H. Purtell. He is survived by his lifelong partner and best friend of over 24 years, Dawn “Mama” Woodard of Bernhards Bay, his eldest child Rebecca “Reba” Purtell, his eldest son Robert “Robert-Bobert” Purtell, his youngest child Mitchell “Mitch-Mel” Purtell, and his beloved cat, Tsunami.
