Thomas Ostrander, Sr. Obituary

Thomas E. Ostrander, Sr. of Central Square, passed away peacefully Wednesday at the age of 89, with his family by his side.

Thomas had courageously fought Alzheimer's for the past 20 years. He was a kind and very loveable man. After serving in the Korean War, he graduated The State University at Brockport in 1958. He spent much of his life teaching and coaching at Central Square High School where he is well known, respected and revered by many. Coach "O" as he was known was an administrator, teacher and coach for 36 years. He coached every level of many sports. He was a boys soccer coach for 20 years, in a program that he created for Central Square. He was also a varsity baseball coach for 20 years, winning league titles. He was active in the community and ran the summer recreation program for 20 years. He always put his students and kids above everything else. He developed the first adaptive physical education program for special needs students at CSCS. A life member of Post 915 American Legion and Communicant of St. Michaels Church for 40 years, which is now Divine Mercy. He influenced and inspired many people who met him. His smile was infectious. 

Thomas is predeceased by his parents; his sister; his sons Thomas, Jr., Matthew and his daughter Sherrey Hull.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 70 years, Rose; his daughter Shelley (Ross) Worley; sons Scott (Kathy), Barry (Jeanne) and Brent (Sheilah); 9 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.

His legacy will live on in Central Square forever.

Calling Hours will be Monday, September 26, 2022 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Traub Funeral Home, Inc., 684 N. Main Street, Central Square, New York. Funeral Services will be at 10:00 am of Tuesday, September 27, 2022 at Lakeshore Baptist Church , 6696 Lakeshore Road, Cicero, New York.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association of Central New York and American Legion Post 915..
