Michael T. Hickey

Michael Thomas Hickey passed away peacefully on Friday, June 26, 2026, with his loved ones by his side.

Michael was born on December 16, 1946, to Catherine (Conboy) and Lawrence Hickey. He graduated from Central Square High School in 1964 and spent his life dedicated to his family, his work, and the community he proudly called home.

Michael worked for Carrier Corporation for 38 years before retiring. After retirement, he served as a bus driver for the Central Square School District for 10 years, where he enjoyed greeting students each day.

A passionate advocate for his hometown, Michael served on the West Monroe Town Board for 40 years and devoted 12 years to the Central Square Board of Education, including six years as Board President. He was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus and was a member of the Cruzin Knights Car Club, where he shared his love of classic cars with fellow enthusiasts.

Michael's greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his children and grandchildren, whom he adored. He enjoyed working on outdoor projects, driving and admiring classic cars, gathering with friends for poker nights, and relaxing at Lorton Lake. Whether lending a helping hand, sharing stories, or simply enjoying other’s company, Michael will be remembered for his generosity of time and dependability. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his loving fiance, Patricia MacMaster; his sons, Tom Hickey (Lauren) and Brian Hickey (Lee); his daughters, Jennifer Rhoades and Stephanie Rhoades; his brother; John (Maureen) Hickey and sister; Sheila (Tom) Sheridan, his many beloved grandchildren; and many extended family members and friends.

Predeceasing him are his parents, Catherine and Lawrence Hickey, and his sister, Maureen Caswell.

Calling hours will be held at Traub Funeral Home in Central Square, NY, on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Divine Mercy Parish on Thursday, July 2, 2026, at 9:30 AM.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Michael’s memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Boys Town, or Knights of Columbus Council #16943.
