Mary Dolores “Mary Pat” Essel, 91, of Central Square, passed away peacefully at home on January 25, 2021. She was born on October 26, 1929 in Utica, NY to the late David and the late Katherine Loughlin. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Joan Dodge, Sister Regina Loughlin, and Francis “Bud” Loughlin.
Mary Pat was a Secretary for the North Syracuse School District before retiring in 1991. She sold Avon for many years. She loved all animals, especially feeding the birds. She enjoyed Jig Saw Puzzles, most of all she loved her family, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Mary Pat was a member of the Divine Mercy Parish where she volunteered at the Scotty. Mary Pat taught Religious Education at St. Michael’s Church and also at St Rose of Lima Church, North Syracuse. She spent her winters for 17 years with her husband, Edward, in Lakeland, Fl.
Mary Pat is survived by her husband of 70 years, Edward; children, Marydiane (Bob) Scheemaker, David Essel, and Terrance (Paula) Essel; grandchildren, Anastasia (Kris) Socie and Joshua (Christine) Scheemaker; 3 great grandchildren, Ariana, Kaden, and Luke; many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Mary Pat’s life will be held at 10 am on Saturday, January 30, 2021 at the Divine Mercy Parish, 592 S. Main St., Central Square, NY. A Visitation will be held from 3- 6 pm on Friday at Traub Funeral Home, 684 N. Main St., Central Square, NY.
