John J. Joyce

John J. Joyce, 81, formerly of Bridgeport, passed away on June 29, 2020 in Syracuse. He was born on July 29, 1938 to the late James and the late Anne (O’Callaghan) in Syracuse. John was preceded in death by his wife, Jean (Keeler) and his son, Brian.

John was the North East Region Service Manager for John Deere, retiring after 57 years. He enjoyed golf, fishing, and hunting. John was an avid sports fan. His favorite sport to watch was anything that his grandchildren were playing.

"The greatest thing about our dad is he always wanted us to have fun. Golf was his passion and he was very good at it. He and mom always had a comical way they picked on each other always out of love for each other. Imagine 5 kids and together for 60 years. Dinner every Sunday everyone invited.

They provided a good home for all of us and were very generous. He worked hard for John Deere and was always willing to help out friends and family. Snowmobiling was a big part of all of our lives in the early 70’s ,80’s lots of fun.

A big part of our lives growing up camping at Long Point every summer for 2 weeks in July. He made sure we all knew how to waterski, put up tents, build fire, how to fish and be good people. we all had a great time. The best time was water skiing up the St. Lawrence River for miles to get gas so everyone could waterski all day and we did. A great time camping with several family members joining us . Dad will be missed by many friends and family. He said, “Don’t worry about me I’ve had a good life”. He truly did have a good life. We all loved him and mom. We will miss them immensely."

John is survived by his children, John (Maryann) Joyce, Kathleen Carpenter, Sharon Joyce,and Brenda Bouthillier; grandchildren, Bill Murphy, Elaine Murphy, Beth Vail, Brian Joyce, Gabe (Kellie) Bouthillier, Alicia Bouthillier, John (Allison) Joyce, Nick Joyce, and Michael (Mackenzie) Joyce; siblings, Bob (Judy) Joyce,  Nancy (John) Hourigan, Mary (Claire) Shaddock, Jim Joyce, and Kevin Joyce; 14 great grandchildren.

A Visitation will be held from 4-7 PM on Monday at Traub Funeral Home,7975 Route 31, Bridgeport, NY 13030. A Mass of Cristian Burial will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, July 8, 2020 at St Francis of Assisi Church, 7820 Route 298, Bridgeport, NY 13030. Burial will take place in Collamer Cemetery
