Herbert M. Pelton, 95, of Central Square, NY passed away peacefully in Oswego, NY on April 16, 2020. Herbert is predeceased by his parents; Homer L. Pelton, and Julia Morley. He is also predeceased by his daughter, Mary Simons; 3 of his sisters, Julia Bernstein, Laura Gambacurta, and Ella Tribett; and 2 brothers, Homer Pelton, and Leon “Monroe’ Pelton.
Herbert was born in Penn Yan, NY on October 1, 1924. Herbert was a military member with the US Navy from 1942 to 1948. He was a Sonar Man First Class, was an active member for 72 years with the American Legion, and the commander of the Central Square Post for 3 years. Herbie was a Tower Chief at La Guardia Airport for many years. He worked as an Electronic Technician Supervisor at FAA in Syracuse, NY. Herbert drove tour bus with Syracuse and Oswego, and was a school bus driver Liverpool Central School. He also worked in real estate. Herbert and Mary were also members of the Divine Mercy Parish in Central Square.
Herbert is survived by his wife Mary “Kilpatrick” Pelton, they were happily married on Feb 20, 1988, for 32 years. Herbert is also survived by his 4 daughters, Julie Purdy, Ella Gufler, Laura Wetzel, and Teresa (Steve) Hughes; his 7 sons, Herbert Pelton Jr., James Pelton, Charles (Sandy) Pelton, Thomas (Cherrie) Pelton, Dennis Pelton, Robert (Debbie) Pelton, and Daniel Pelton; 22 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, and 4 great great grandchildren.
