Eugene Weakley Obituary

Eugene Weakley passed away on Wednesday, December 23, 2020. He was 80 years old. Born in Duanesburg, Gene was the son of the late Raymond and Catherine (Blakeslee) Weakley. He attended the Schalmont Schools, before graduating from Illionis School of Heavy Equipment. He co-owned BMW Plumbing upon moving to the Central Square area. He worked as a heavy equipment operator for DaySpring Construction, Lancaster Construction and John E Fisher Construction Co. Inc.. Gene was happiest, when he was working with his own backhoe, dump truck and bulldozer. Gene won The Case Heavy Equipment Rodeo locally and was sent to Arizona for Nationals in which he placed in the top ten.

Gene was an active member of the Palermo Volunteer Fire Department for nearly 40 years, in which he served as an Engineer.  He actively supported the Oswego County 4H clubs, contributing to the build of Amboy 4H Center and hosting Equestrian Drill Team practices at his own house. Above all, Gene enjoyed his time with family and grandchildren and recently became a great grandfather. He leaves behind his devoted daughters, Deborah S. (Martin) Dunham, and Dawn M Smith, as well as his grandchildren Connor Dunham, Chadwick Dunham and Nathan (Rylie) Smith, and great granddaughter, Kinsley Ann Smith. He also leaves behind his siblings, Raymond (Joyce) Weakley, Emma Wilson, Joan Czernis, Jeanette (James) Swanker, James Weakley, Geraldine (Fred) Briggs, Diane (James) Jones, Judy (Gene) Yauchler, and David (Delores) Weakley, a sister-in-law, Susan Weakley, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Gene was predeceased by his loving wife of 53 years, Barbara Ann (Quirk) Weakley and his siblings, Olive Mergenthaler, Gary Weakley, Richard Weakley and Roger Weakley. His brothers-in-law, Andrew Wilson and William Czernis; sisters-in-law, Carol Weakley and Ethel Weakley.
