Daniel Motomi Morimoto, 89, of Central Square, passed away peacefully on February 2, 2020 surrounded by his loving family. Born February 1, 1931 in Fullerton, CA to Edward S. Morimoto and Toyoi Yamada Morimoto, he was the second youngest of five children. Dan was a survivor of the WWII Japanese Internment Camp in Poston, Arizona. He was a military veteran having served in the US Air Force as an airplane mechanic during the Korean War.
He moved to Central Square in 1955 to help his Father run a poultry farm and deliver eggs locally. Married on February 4, 1956, Dan and his wife, Bessie Yoko, celebrated 63 years of marriage before her passing on March 14, 2019. He retired as a Test Engineering Specialist at General Electric in Liverpool, NY after having worked there for 35 years, and served as a councilman on the Palermo Town Board for 21 years.
He was an avid Syracuse University sports fan, enjoyed fishing, golfing, bowling on the GE-Lockheed Martin league, riding his motorcycle, spending time with his girls and absolutely loved being outdoors.
Dan is preceded in death by his wife, Bessie Yoko; his parents, Edward and Toyoi Morimoto; a brother, Henry Morimoto; and three sisters, Grace Carich, Beebe Hum and Laura Morimoto. He is survived by daughters, Cathy McConnell (David); Lori Nash (Mike); Tricia Morimoto; Julie Morimoto (Ed Hickman) Suzanne Morimoto (Timothy Gibbons) and numerous loving nephews and nieces. He had 12 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Dan’s family would like to thank the staff at Crouse Hospital, HCR Home Care, CNY Hospice, CNY Family Care and the comforting support of family, friends and wonderful neighbors.
