On September 28th, 2020, at the age of 77, Bruce M Smith passed away after a long illness surrounded by his family.
He is pre-deceased by his mother, Ava Race of Colosse and the love of his life, his wife of 23 years, Sandra (Bixler) Smith. Bruce is survived by his daughter, who lovingly called him Lucky, Chere Hasto Walker of Jamesville, NY; son Michael Pettit of Sandy Creek; grand-daughter Ashlee Walker of Charlotte, NC; great-grandson Caiden Wilkins of Charlotte, NC; and his step-son Sean Hance of Hastings, NY.
Bruce retired from the Hasting’s Voluntary Fire Department as District Lieutenant, after 20 years of service. He loved being in the fire department and working the field days, parades and steak bakes with his late wife Sandy. He was self-employed, Smith’s Trucking, and an independent contractor for the Post Standard for over 40 years; taking pride in the fact that he never missed a day.
Bruce had a heart of gold and a charm all his own that made everyone love him. Bruce would say, “I’m getting thirsty” and go hang out with his buddies at the Waterfront Tavern in Brewerton, The Wild Horse in Brewerton and Irish Jacks in Hastings. On his down time you could catch him in his chair watching Hallmark Christmas Movies.
Calling Hours will be held on Thursday, October 1, 2020, 5 pm to 7 pm, at Traub Funeral Home in Central Square.
Lucky you will stay in our hearts loved and remembered every day.
