Bernard “Bernie” C. McElwain, Jr, 64, of Bernhards Bay, passed away on November 21, 2022 with his family by his side. He was born on September 10, 1958 in Malone, NY to the late Bernard C. and the late Joyce (Martin) McElwain, Sr. Bernie was preceded in death by his God son, Mitch Lembke.
Bernie was raised on his family farm in Bombay, NY and graduated from Salmon River High School. He worked as a Truck Driver with Henophy Trucking for many years, most recently with his copilot, Beau. Bernie enjoyed watching all car racing, especially NHRA Drag Racing. He was a huge fan of Montreal Canadiens Hockey. He was very proud of his ’41 Chevy and his Harley Trike and loved to share these moments with his wife. They were avid snowmobilers and they loved to travel the South together. Bernie loved to teach all the children how to swim by throwing them in the deep end, a memory never forgotten by any of them. Bernie’s had a genuine love for his family. He was proud of each and every one of them with anything that they accomplished. He was their biggest fan. Everyone was welcome and had a great time at “BernDog’s Garage” smoking cigars, drinking beers, and dancing the night away.
Bernie is survived by his wife of 23 years, Joan (Brown); his children, Alicia (George) McElwain and their children, Emma Angel, Emma Jo, Brent, and Aiden; Angela (Josh) McElwain and their children, Ethan, Kolby, Jaxson, Aria, and Everly; Jammie (Kim) McElwain and their children, Odin, Addison, and Abigail; Joseph (Sophia) Valerio and granddog, Wesley; Samantha (Mike) Dygert and their children, Michael and Jonathon; David (Courtney) Paronett and their children, Mallory and Cayson; his sisters, Rita (Phil) Dustin, Jackie Montville, and Minka Lembke; several nieces, nephews and many good friends.
A Funeral Service will take place on Saturday, November 26, 2022 at 12 PM at Traub Funeral Home, Central Square. There will not be any Calling Hours.
