Peter Sayer Patch died Friday, August 30th at Upstate University Hospital, Syracuse, NY, of complications of his cancer treatment. He was 82 years old.
Mr. Patch was born in Gouverneur, NY, son of attorney Allan G. and H. Elizabeth (Sayer) Patch. His childhood was spent in Gouverneur and Watertown before he moved to Syracuse. He graduated from St. John’s Catholic Academy, served in the Army for two years active duty and six years in the reserves. He worked for Niagara Mohawk Power Corp. for 35 years and his final position was power line foreman.
He married Ann Mullen of Syracuse, and together they have four sons: Steven (Karen), Brewerton; James (Shelia), Edmond, OK; Kenneth (Pamela), Central Square and Robert (Leigh), Salem OR. They have nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was pre-deceased by his brother Phillip and sister Elizabeth Anne. Peter and Ann would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on September 12th.
They lived and raised their children in Central Square where Mr. Patch was involved with Little League, Boy Scouts, served as village trustee and judge. He was also a volunteer in the Central Square Fire Department, where he eventually served a term as chief.
In retirement Mr. Patch volunteered at Habitat for Humanity for seven years and helped form the volunteer group, “Silver Hammers.” Peter was known for his willingness and skill in helping family and friends with home improvement projects. He owned a 1931 Chris Craft wooden boat and won top awards in Clayton, Old Forge and this summer at Skaneateles. His great loves were his family, fishing and golf.
