Leon Legere Jr. Obituary

Leon "Leo" Legere Jr., 86 of West Monroe, passed away on Wednesday.
Leo was born on March 12, 1932 in Raquette Lake, NY son of Leon and Ethel Legere. He was an Air Force Veteran of the Korean War from 1950 to 1954 and a member of the Central Square American Post # 0915. Leo was a volunteer driver and EMDT for SOVAC for 15 years until age 79. He was a scout master for several years in addition to being on the ski patrol at Song Mountain. 
He was in sales for many years, retiring from Texas Instruments and then started Tony Harper's Pizza and Subs at Raquette Lake, where he was noted for delivering his famous pizza by boat on the lake. 
He had many athletic talents including Handball and Racquetball where he took 2nd place in the senior division for NYS. He holds 36 medals for Senior Games. He played softball (pitcher) for the Senior Cyclones and went on to play in the US National Senior Olympics in 1989. He was a scratch golfer and member of Bellevue for several years. Played volley ball until 2016 and received a gold medal. 
He is survived by his wife, Leona Cook-Legere; his children Leon (Freda) Legere III, Lori "Lucy" (Melissa Davis) Legere, Lisa (Don) Murphy and Lizette (Lance) Pierson; two sisters, Linda (John) Gasser and Leslie (Phil) Felice; nine grandchildren; Leon Legere IV, Luke Legere, Lena (Michael) Willingham, Will Davis, Brian Murphy, Chris Murphy, Melissa Murphy, Kelsey Pierson and Arista Pierson; his Aunt Catherine Pellikka and several nieces, nephews and cousins. 
Calling hours are Monday, May 14th from 4-6 PM at Traub Funeral Home, Central Square, NY. Services will follow at 6PM at the funeral home.
