Lawrence W. McCann, 65, of Phoenix, rode off into the sunset on Sunday. He was born January 12, 1953 to the late Worden and Alice (Painter) McCann, though stopped getting presents when his birthday was later stolen by his granddaughter. Lawrence was an Alter Boy at St. Stephens Catholic Church, graduated from Phoenix High School in 1971, and then went on to become a welder. He worked for Black Clawson (now Davis-Standard) in Fulton for 44 years. Lawrence also attended Kentucky Horseshoeing School where earned his certification as an AFA Farrier. His passion was horse training and he had planned to pursue that in his retirement. He was married to the love of his life, Darlene Ashby, in 1976 on New Year's Eve. Lawrence dedicated his life to caring for his family and in the last 20 years providing exceptional care to his daughter, Sherrie, a.k.a: "Smiley." Lawrence loved gathering with family and friends, and was well known for his World Class pig roasting.
He is survived by his wife, Darlene; children, Jamie (Julie) Harrington, Frank (Robyn) McCann, Michael (Colleen) McCann, Amy (Steven) Kush, Sherrie McCann, Gretchen (Carl Clothier) McCann; 18 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren, siblings, Carolyn Trumble, James (Darlene) McCann, Suzanne McCann, Jodi (Jason) Adrianos, Kathy (Phil) Harrell, Fred (Kathy) Ashby, and Lori (Heath) Salmonsen; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family will be holding a Celebration of Life at a later date.
