Kay A. (Brown) Buschle, age 82, died Sunday, January 1, 2017, after a brief stay at Iroquois Nursing Home in Syracuse, NY.  Kay was a lifelong resident of Central Square, NY. She graduated from Central Square High School and earned her bachelor’s degree (1957) and master’s degree (1962) from the School of Nursing, Syracuse University.  Kay was a professor of nursing at Alfred University and spent a majority of her professional career as a professor of nursing in the School of Nursing at Syracuse University before retiring from SU in 1994.

Kay was active in the SU Nursing Alumni Association and alumni events of SUNY Environmental College of Forestry in Syracuse, who considered Kay an adopted member of the ESF family.  She was an avid SU basketball and football fan.  Kay found great enjoyment boating on Oneida Lake and socializing with her nursing colleagues, friends, neighbors, and family.

Kay is predeceased by her parents, Walter and Beatrice Brown, by her husband, Dr. Gabriel F. Buschle, her brother-in-law, Dr. Donald Buschle, and her sister-in-law, Johanna (Roger) Buschle MacDonald.  She is survived by her cousin, Sandy Buschle (Ken) Nieva, her nephew Thomas (Terry) Buschle MacDonald, cousins Paul Brown of Oswego, Jeanette Flora of Florida, and several great nieces and nephews, Lesley (Larry) Wilcox, Dennis Grants, Erin (Daniel) Holdridge, and Michael (Stephanie) MacDonald.

Family and friends may call on Friday, January 6, 2017, from 4 to 6 pm at Traub Funeral Home, 684 N. Main Street, Central Square, NY, 13036, with a funeral service immediately following at the funeral home.  Interment will be held in the spring at Hillside Cemetery in Central Square.  Contributions in Kay’s memory may be made to the Gabriel F. and Kay A. Buschle Fund at SUNY ESF, Development Office, 214 Bray Hall, 1 Forestry Drive, Syracuse, NY 13210.

A spring burial will be held for Kay Buschle on Monday, 1:00 PM, at the Hillside Cemetery.
