Harvey Benn, III Obituary

Harvey Nelson Benn III, 84, of Bridgeport, passed away on Thursday, February 22, 2018, with family by his side.

Harvey and his sister Carol Montville, who passed in 2016, were both born in Syracuse to Harvey N. Jr. and Winifred (Watson) Harvey. He was an Alumni of Christian Brother Academia and studied at Lemoyne Collage. Harvey was Honorably Discharged from the US Army in 1962. He was hired with the New York Central Railroad, as a Brakemen, in 1955 and retired after 41 years from Conrail in 1996. He was Local Chairman for the United Transportation Union. When Harvey was furloughed from the railroad, He ran a women’s clothing line for the Pro Golf Association (PGA) across New York State and Northern Pennsylvania. He was an avid golfer though out his life, claiming a few Member Guest wins at Rouges Roost Golf & Country Club. While playing at Canon Valley he sank his first hole in one. Harvey also enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially with his dogs, which he took everywhere.

Harvey was predeceased by his wife Ann (Donnelly) Benn. They were happily married 57 years. Together they had three children, Janice White, Denice (William) Roehm, and Harvey (Maria-Elena) Benn IV; eight grand children Edward White Jr., Mathew White, Jessica Hamlet, Robyn Roehm, William Roehm III, Harvey Benn V, Cory Benn, Nathan Benn; and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

There will be a private family service at a later date.
